TSN by Jason DeVos, May 22 Canada’s women’s national team coach, John Herdman, announced his 18-player roster for Canada’s upcoming friendly on June 2 against the United States at BMO Field in Toronto. The squad contains a few surprises (like the inclusion of American-born 21-year old defender Rachel Quon) but also some familiar faces; 14 players named were part of Canada’s bronze-medal-winning team at last year’s Olympic Summer Games in London. One of those faces was Melissa Tancredi. If you watched Canada play in London last year, you’d expect Tancredi to be one of the first names on Herdman’s list …
Read more »

By: Neil Davidson, The Canadian Press TORONTO – As anyone who has ever tried cleaning a basement or garage filled with junk knows, things get worse before they get better. Toronto FC is at that messy stage of the clean-up. A year ago at this time, the perennial MLS underachiever was 1-10-0 in the league basement and had just fired manager Aron Winter. Today the club sports a new president, manager, chief scout, two new assistant coaches and has brought in 19 new players since the end of last season.
by squizz , 05-22-2013 When the Canada-USA “rematch” on June 2 was announced earlier this year, I asked Canadian head coach John Herdman if he was going to continue experimenting with new players, as he had been doing in Canada’s matches up to that point in 2013. The first word of his response was a clear, unequivocal “no”.
By Steve Davis, NBC Sports, Pro Soccer Talk, May 21, 2013 From a fan standpoint, as the great unwashed considered Major League Soccer and franchise No. 20, the league always looked more interesting with an expanded geographical footprint. It made perfect sense from the outside; Major League Soccer stretching into the American southeast, specifically, had a certain sex appeal. Plus, more TV markets couldn’t hurt, right? But for Major League Soccer’s deciders, this was a strategic choice all about dollars and good financial sense – something near and dear to those who keep answering cash calls for an 18-year-old operation …
Read more »
